I don't know how to fix this, except like this: whatever I send to you, I will try to send both in the body of the message, and as an attachment, AND I will post it on the blog: http://awesomecave.blogspot.com (check the blog, there is stuff on it).

So:

Here's a story for you. One morning at about 7 Am I was bustling about with my brow furrowed at a sandwich shop in the Philadelphia airport called Basset's Turkey (my summer job). I was smelling like turkey and trying to envision what Thich Naht Hahn, monk writer of "Being Peace" would do in my situation, being accused of mixing up orders by my collection of co-workers who were in turn being accused of mixing up orders by other co-workers, or by customers eyeing the rows of muddled breakfast sandwiches and begining to panic like a herd of flighty cattle . . . SUDDENLY I spy in my line JADE!!!! mighty LACer and reminder that my life exists outside of the sandwich shoppe, reminder that we are capable of great things! She tears up, we hug. . . a reunion! Seeing Jade made working all summer at Basset's Turkey mean a whole new something. It reminded me that we are all absolutely still comrades (to sound a little Soviet). You guys are special! Forward this to camp folks missing from the list and send me their email adresses!

Love Vibe.

PS: if you didn't get the memo yet, we are one month away from the next home-town camp-out ho-down at LAC property. That's September 3rd, Labor Day weekend Sunday night. What a fabulous camp theme. What a story. Kids from the city are transported to somewhere in the wilderness. Sorted into their 4 houses. Taught about the unique and unusual properties of nature. Each evening they sit around and learn new games, stories, and songs. Points are awarded (hey that's a great trucker's knot) and subtracted (your time out will begin when you're standing quietly next to that tree) from each house. The winning house lights the final campfire. Pines and 3 Oaks I could have had a great week with you!

I think there are too many things that HP and LAC have in common to be explained by muggles. Any thoughts? For those of you who don't know in 2002 the meditation garden was built during the merger of the entity LAC and the Cleveland Home, it was a prayer for a smooth transition, hope for communication, and more, for each it held different meaning. To get down to the technical side, it was a large stone wall that ran in a circle, with the four directions symbolized by various stones and symbols extending out of the circle. I do it no justice, maybe someone has a picture they can post of it? None the less, it was a work of art and was given alot of spirit by those who made it, those who lived that dream.

We had (leadership) ceremony admist rubble, on bare soil behind some new town houses that are being built. Where once stood the Unity Garden. We heard sirens, bells chiming, and birds singing. Hearts beating. Light the candle and everything is alright. They say. Hope for new turning of a circle. Is this a scar that needs to be healed? The constructs of this "real" world butting heads with the structure we lay out for leadership which at one time could be summed up in one word, CAMP. There was always more. Can that not exist in this world, without faltering as the worlds' drive pushes itself upon thought and being? And what happens next?

What is this without campers? I remembered them today. I remembered love them no matter what, Jimmys up the tree again.
Your up the creek with too many paddles but you got it covered.

Will this be forgotten? When something like the unity garden that would have stood for thousands of years, was moved so easily? When the stone is gone where is hope? What makes a leader? What are your ideals? Your structure?

As time moves on, does this lose meaning? As it spreads will the magic lie forgotten? Will we forgot our roots? Will we remember why we are here? Or did we ever know? Am I asking too many questions with not enough answers?

After much deliberation we decided to have ceremony there, ouside of the property a break from the norm, from the structure and in that moment it was right but what of other moments? What of the consequences of our actions?

What of grief and loss. Full blown. This is life. It is not fair.

Tell a story today, forget about adventure, drama, comedy, plot...remember spirit. It will happen and I too will listen.
Sometimes your story won't make sense, few things do all the time. Live.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of the TORCH OF LEADERSHIP let folk know. Ceremony will keep happening.

Thank you all for guidance. I’ve been envisioning a weekend LAC spa retreat! I'm in the mood for some evergreen branches in boiling water or, as the campers knew it, Hemlock Tea. Maybe a facial with the infamous Happee Frappee, ooohhh, and a massage circle around the campfire! If you need a ride, would like to carpool or are just in the mood for company post it up and see what you can finagle. It is so great to read the posts from you LACers--you're the best! ;) And talk about a camp for the challenged--here we are, discussing our technological challenges, directional challenges, etc. I just love an open community!

Anybody interested in a new campfire game? Sister and Kudzu and I invented it on our drive back to NC. It's called The Mullet Song. Divide into groups of 3 (how convenient for Kudzu, Sister, and I--a ready-made group) and give each group a tune. They must then invent a song about mullets to that tune! This is really just the first phase...we're going to have a whole session where the theme is mullets. We know, we know, you wish you could be in our group. We're cool like that.

New names for LAC: Tigerlily suggested just going with "LAC," much as the restaurant formerly known as KY Fried Chicken is now simply KFC. Not that I'm comparing camp to greasy chicken. I like Vibe's naming of this site "Awesome Cave." can we do something with that?

so many possibilities. hope everyone is doing great! hugs and love, Cicada

Introductions

Okay, so like I said in one of my comments. I've never been to a blog site before. I just found out why Vibe sent us the details that she did. Anyway, I thought since I had already signed a few comments as KYmoonbeam, I should introduce myself to those that may not know me. Everyone that already does know me was probably rolling their eyes and saying ...Moonbeammmm... she's so silly.

I was a camp counselor in 94 and 97 and the Health Supervisor in 95 and 96. I also came back as a volunteer counselor one summer, but can't remember which one either 99 or 00 maybe. I was Moonbeam at camp, so named because I made a necklace of dandelions while waiting for the water to "set up" during staff training. I didn't want to be known as Dandelion. I grew up in KY so therefore signed in as KYmoonbeam since I didn't really see the relevance of signing in as AC. If you haven't guessed by now, you'll probably figure out in time that I would be one of those counselor's with no since of direction. I had to use the map the entire 4 years.

Anyway I'm using the blog map now, I've got the relevance of why I need to sign in as AC and all should be well. Please add a comment and introduce yourself, your camp self, etc...

Moonbeam

I found it. All we need now is for you to start writing for it! Hooray. I am going to email out the admin password to the camp email list that I have. If you ever worked at camp and want to be able to post on this site, just email me at alice07@dartmouth.edu and I will send you the password. If you want to do more complicated things with it, you are certainly welcome to try it. I hope this is the beginning of a real good word exchange, a first step.
love, vibe
